We know that mastering introductions is a fundamental skill for every ESL student, but practicing it doesn't have to be boring. This week, we are bringing some reality TV excitement to your classroom with three new additions to our popular "Introducing People" section: Survivor Meet the Castaways! 🔦
This is a fantastic way to get your students listening to real-world accents and practicing essential personal details.
🎧 How It Works
We’ve created an interactive experience based on the hit show Survivor. Here is the rundown:
The Setup: Each of the three new sets features 8 different "Castaways."
The Challenge: Students select a person and watch a short, punchy 4-8 second video of that castaway introducing themselves.
The Task: Next to the video, there are four mystery cards: Name, Age, Location, and Profession. Students must listen carefully to the clip and try to identify the answers.
The Reveal: Click the cards to reveal the correct answers and see if they "survived" the listening test! ✅
💡 Teacher Tip: The "Third Person" Switch While the videos are great for listening, they are amazing for grammar practice too! The castaways speak in the First Person ("I am... I live in..."). After checking the answers, I like to ask my students to use the information on the cards to introduce the person to the class using the Third Person ("He is Brandon, he is an Account Manager...").
It’s a simple way to bridge the gap between listening and speaking.
♿ For All Levels
Got a lower-level class? No problem. We’ve included a "Toggle Subtitles" button. You can turn the text on to help them catch the details, or leave it off for your advanced students who want a challenge.
These exercises are perfect for preparing students to meet new people, introduce friends, or talk about colleagues in a natural, engaging way.
