Hello, Cool English Teachers! šĀ Welcome back to our weekly blog, where we highlight the newest and most exciting activities on CoolEnglish.org.
Teaching pronunciation can sometimes feel like a challenge, but it doesn't have to be boring! This week, we are thrilled to introduce four great new additions to the Pronunciation Cards ActivitiesĀ in our Speaking section.
These new games are designed to help your students practice tricky sounds and phrases in a fun, interactive way. Weāve added four engaging themes to choose from:
š Essentials and Classics
š Food and Ordering
š» Tech and Business
āļø Travel and City
How It Works š®
It is a completely interactive, game-like experience for your classroom. Each theme features 12 unique cards across three different challenge levels: Basic (Easy), Intermediate (Medium), and Advanced (Hard).
Here is how to play with your students:
Choose a Level:Ā Select the right difficulty for your class.
Pick a Card:Ā Have a student choose a card from the deck. Teacher Tip: Weāve included a handy legend for students who might not know the English names for card suits (Spades ā ļø, Hearts ā„ļø, Clubs ā£ļø, Diamonds ā¦ļø).
Speak Out Loud:Ā The student is presented with a short phrase (like "Chaos in the chorus"). They have to try and pronounce it correctly out loud.
Get Hints & Listen:Ā If they get stuck, click the š” HintĀ button for a quick tip (e.g., "The 'Ch' sounds hard like a K"). You can also click the šĀ ListenĀ button to hear the correct pronunciation before awarding points!
Extra Tools for Teachers š ļø
Quick Review:Ā Want to go over everything at the end of the game? There is a fantastic overall review screen where you can see all 12 cards, hints, and audio buttons in one easy view.
Offline Practice:Ā As always, we have included a downloadable PDF study guide. It is perfect for printable seatwork in class or to send home as homework. šØļø
I am sure your students will have fun and get so much better at pronouncing these challenging English phrases and words.
