Hey everyone, John from Cool English with your new activity of the week. Today I have a new addition to Commercial Stories. Super Bowl Ads 2023 offers ten of the best commercials from this month’s Super Bowl, where the ads cost 14 million dollars per minute.
Commercial Stories are a great way to get your students talking. Each is 30 or 60 seconds long, with keywords to learn and a summary to read. These are great ways to practice storytelling and sequencing. I use it for speaking and writing practice, usually speaking in class and writing when assigned as homework.
The material is very flexible, depending on the group. Sometimes I use them as conversation starters to talk about the quality of the ads. Advanced groups, I have them analyze the ads using the rhetorical triangle. For more basic groups, I have them read the summary first and then watch the video, pausing it to identify the parts.
