This week we’re excited to announce two new additions to the Cartoon Verb Race series—an engaging activity where students practice identifying action verbs through classic animated scenes.
These activities are ideal for improving verb recognition, sentence fluency, and storytelling skills in a fun, visual format.
How It Works
Students watch a short cartoon clip and try to write down as many action verbs as they can spot. Afterward, they view a list of sample verbs and use them to retell the story in their own words.
Each video-based activity includes:
A blank verb list for students to fill in
A click-to-reveal word bank with definitions
A story summary tool with three levels of difficulty for modeling or reference
These features make it easy to adapt the activity to different proficiency levels and classroom settings.
New to the Series
With the latest additions, Cartoon Verb Race now includes three full sets. Each one features a unique group of classic cartoons and fresh verb challenges. The stories vary in complexity, making them perfect for students at beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels.
Why Teachers Love It
Encourages active viewing and listening
Builds verb vocabulary in context
Reinforces narrative sequencing and sentence construction
Works equally well for in-class activities or homework assignments
Assign it as a group competition, use it as a warm-up, or have students submit written summaries for independent practice.
